Reading Period? What Reading Period?

Tuesday, December 16th, 2008

You should have a right to take your final exams during finals week, not the week or weekend before.

finals

I should have posted this earlier, but I didn’t realize how big of a deal this was for the hundreds of students who were affected by the Registrar’s changes this semester.

CMC’s Academic Policies clearly state: “Only the dean of the faculty may change the dates or times of final examinations.” But when I contacted Dean of the Faculty Dean Hess to ask about this last week, he was unaware of the situation but said he would look into it.  I just heard back from Registrar Elizabeth Morgan, who says, “The common finals on the 13th and 14th were approved in September by the Dean of Faculty’s Office, scheduled in consultation with each faculty member, then reserved through my office.”

Conference volleyball brings a special energy to Ducey Gym. This rivalry match-up did not disappoint – the atmosphere was palpably electric. The outdoor and indoor heat did not deter the PP faithful or CMS’ contingent as several hundred fans packed the stands to sweat it out alongside their girls.

The Sports Update

Saturday, September 27th, 2008

It was a tough week for several of CMS’ teams, as the Football team lost in triple overtime on the road and the Men’s Soccer team dropped a 1-0 decision to Pomona as time expired.

The Football team traveled to Tacoma, Washington to take on the Loggers of the University of Puget Sound. The game started quickly with both teams finding the endzone, before the defenses settled, and kept the halftime score deadlocked 7-7.

During our first weekend back from winter break, girl’s soccer coach Keri Sanchez and handful of student-athletes including Ashton Clarke, Helena Bottemiler, and Nicole Sady-Kennedy attended a Division III Student-Athlete Leadership Conference hosted by the NCAA. Our school’s SAAC (Student-Athlete Advisory Committee) met (with several other Division III schools from all over the country) in Irving, Texas, to ultimately create a project to improve student-athlete and faculty relations.
