The April 25-26 Tortuga/Mara Toga Reunion is now history, and will go down in history as a howling success. We “old guys” invited five special guests to Saturday’s afternoon and evening activities ---- four of the new Tortugateers of Prado Dam (juniors Alex Caldwell, Brian Fuerst, Kyle Ragins and Brando McCune) and the first recipient of the Tortuga/Mara Toga Scholarship, senior Ryan Hutchison, a noted turkey killer. By the end of the day there was absolutely no doubt that the committee of “old guys” that picked Ryan for the scholarship had made a superb choice. Once he learns to stop calling me “Mr. Cadagan” or “Sir”, he is going to go places. Likewise, after trading beers and Tortuga cocktails with the four new guys, I was completely satisfied that we’d made the right decision in quietly encouraging them to adopt our old name and whatever of our old traditions they thought appropriate.

Ocassionally check the website shown above. New guy Brando is going to take over as webmaster and after a little butt kicking by me and new guy Kyle we expect to see some interesting photos of the 2008 reunion posted for your viewing enjoyment.

Don't remember dues...there were expenses no doubt. Refresments at the club's scholarship committee meetings, dynamite, fuel for keeping warm on smudge nights, the homeless shelter costs, peer counseling sessions, and so forth;-) Echoing Blanding's comments - Bill Arce, indeed, was an important part of our CMC experience. So much so, he was inducted into the club a couple of years back at a Tortuga renunion in Los Olivos.

Go for it, you "Nouveau-Togas"!! If you need any ideas (appropriate Toga garb to wear = important) from this expat Toga living in Costa Rica, send an email. I have some photos of Toga adventures from '66,'67, '68 which I plan to send to Jerry C. to share at Toga reunions up in Santa Barbara. Work hard and play hard, gents!

To all the current Tortugateers of Prado Dam. CONGRATULATIONS ! You have restarted something which promises to be one of, if not the highlight of your college career. Myself, I would not have stayed at CMC for the four years if it hadn't been for two things: baseball & Bill Arce, and the Tortugateers. For those of you able to attend the reunion this coming weekend, you will understand the bond between all these guys. There are no handshakes, only hugs. We all are very close to over 100 guys from CMC and the Club. We know wives, children, careers, where they live and have lived since graduation almost 50 years ago. It is this binding friendship with each other that we all come away from CMC with. Not a single other non Tortuga who ever graduated can claim over maybe ten guys they have stayed in touch with. Your experience in the Tortugateers will outlast every other memory of your college days. The best to each and every one of you. I hope to see as many of you at the reunion as can possibly make it.
